Accidental Pizzaiolo Mark Iacono opened Lucali as a labor of love, to save the local candy store of his Carroll Gardens youth from an uncertain, generic fate. Since its opening in 2006, this place has been attracting legions of fans for its menu of famous thin blistered wood-fired pies and calzones. There are only two menu items but this place is ranked top pizzeria not only in New York City but in the whole country.
It's a cash-only place and no ATM on-premises. Bring some extra cash in case you want to buy additional items.
- It is recommended to arrive at this place around 3:30 pm and stand in line behind the velvet rope to get the seating timeslot. Get here as early as possible to eat early. The seating hostess/host comes at 4 pm to give the patrons the seating time slots on a first-come-first-served basis.
- The servers have the reputation of not being well-spoken but Pizza compels the people to keep coming back here.
- Order one extra pie/calzone to take out, your taste buds will thank you later. It is Jay-Z's favorite pizza place.
