Lou Mitchell's

Operating since 1923, Lou Mitchell's is a legendary Chicago diner situated near the beginning of historic Route 66. Famous for its hearty breakfasts, fluffy omelets, and freshly baked breads, it has welcomed locals, travelers, and U.S. presidents for over a century. Visitors are traditionally greeted with free doughnut holes and sweet treats while waiting in its retro dining room.

• A Historic Place, it has hosted many celebrities, including U.S. Presidents, Mayors, Governors, Senators, Representatives, athletes, coaches, authors, judges, lawyers, clergy, and movie and tv personalities. French Toast, Waffles & Wings are customers' favorite items. But you wouldn't go wrong with anything from the menu, including pancakes, omelets, freshly squeezed juices, egg sandwiches, signature donuts, and daily made-from-scratch baked items. There are diners-style unlimited cups of coffee. True to the Greek tradition, customers receive Milk Duds on their arrival.
