Phantom Ship Overlook

History

The overlook is named for the Phantom Ship, a natural rock formation in Crater Lake made of older volcanic rock that was left standing as the surrounding volcano collapsed and later eroded. The formation’s ship-like silhouette has long been one of the lake’s best-known landmarks, and the overlook was established to give visitors a direct view of it from the rim road.
