Adventurous coastal hike through eroded sandstone canyons to Black's Beach.

Ho Chi Minh Trail
Directions

The Ho Chi Minh Trail, also known as the Saigon Trail, is an adventurous coastal path in La Jolla leading down to Black's Beach. This short but rugged hike meanders through steep sandstone slot canyons, wooden plank bridges, and slippery rock scrambles. Hikers are rewarded with dramatic ocean views, unique geological formations, and direct beach access along the Pacific coastline.

History

Originally used by surfers in the 1960s to access more secluded surf spots, the Ho Chi Minh Trail has become a popular hiking destination. Its name, drawing a parallel with the supply trail used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, hints at its challenging and somewhat hidden nature.

Quick tip: Wear sturdy shoes with good grip and avoid hiking during or right after rain when the sandstone becomes extremely slick.
