Scripps Pier

Located along La Jolla Shores, UCSD's Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier is an active oceanographic research facility operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. While access onto the pier deck itself is restricted to university research staff, the public beach directly underneath remains accessible to visitors. It is widely recognized as one of San Diego's most popular photo spots, offering spectacular coastal views and dramatic architecture.

History

Initially built in 1915 and later reconstructed in 1988, Scripps Pier has been instrumental in marine research and education, operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
