Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

History

The reserve is named after the Torrey pine, a rare and endangered species that grows only here and on Santa Rosa Island off the coast of Santa Barbara. The area was designated a State Natural Reserve in 1977 to protect its unique natural resources and to preserve its beauty for future generations.
