Point Dume State Beach features rugged coastal bluffs, rocky coves, and expansive sandy beaches along the Malibu shoreline. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails leading to blufftop ocean viewpoints ideal for spotting wildlife such as sea lions and whales. The area is also popular for swimming, surfing, scuba diving, and relaxing by the water.

History

Point Dume was named by explorer George Vancouver in 1793 in honor of Padre Francisco Dumetz of Mission San Buenaventura. The headland has been used for various purposes, from Chumash settlement to defense installations during WWII.

Quick tip: Parking near the clifftop summit is extremely limited, so park in the main Westward Beach Road lot and walk up to the trails.
