Biosphere 2

Biosphere 2 is a world-renowned Earth science research facility operated by the University of Arizona, located in Oracle north of Tucson and accessible from Phoenix. History

Biosphere 2 was built between 1987 and 1991 as an experiment in self-sustaining ecological systems. It gained fame for the 1991-93 missions where crews lived inside for extended periods, testing the viability of enclosed ecosystems for future space colonization.
