History
The Japanese Friendship Garden, or 'San Kei En', was developed as a symbol of friendship between San Diego and its sister city, Yokohama. It was inspired by the mutual respect and cultural exchange that began during the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. Over the years, it has expanded significantly, with key contributions from prominent Japanese garden designers.
