Angel Island State Park, the largest natural island in San Francisco Bay, offers some of the best views of the surrounding Bay Area. Angel Island is a hidden gem in the urban Bay Area, with excellent hiking trails and many other recreational opportunities readily available. From 1910 to 1940, the U.S. Immigration Station (now a museum) processed hundreds of thousands of immigrants, the majority from China.
Angel Island's micro-climate will be different at different places on the island. Dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes.
- Angel Island State Park is accessible seven days a week by Golden Gate Ferry, located behind San Francisco's Historic Ferry Building at 1 Ferry Building, San Francisco, CA 94105. Visitors must purchase round-trip tickets at the Ferry Terminal.
- Visitors can bring bikes on the Ferry to Angel Island state park, and bike rentals are also available seasonally at the Park.
- In Ayala Cove, visitors can obtain a brochure providing a map and brief history of the Park’s sites, a description of the facilities, and things to do.
- Take the Northridge trail to Mt. Livermore and come down using the Sunset Trail for breathtaking views of the San Francisco skyline and Tiburon.
- Top activities in the park include Walk or Bike the Paved Perimeter Road, visiting the US Immigration Station, Fort McDowell, Fort Reynolds,
