Historic hilltop tower offering sweeping 360-degree views of San Francisco

Coit Tower
Website Directions 415-249-0995

Perched atop Telegraph Hill, Coit Tower is an iconic 1930s landmark famed for its vivid WPA-era murals depicting California life during the Great Depression. Visitors can explore the historic frescoes inside the base or head up to the observation deck for panoramic vistas of the city skyline, San Francisco Bay, and Alcatraz. Keep an eye out for the neighborhood's famous wild parrots along the surrounding park trails.

Quick tip: Parking at the summit is extremely limited, so take the scenic Filbert Stairs or public transit to reach the top.

Expert notes

  • Enjoy the 360-degree views of the city at the observation deck. Parking is available in a limited number; it may take up to 30 minutes to get the parking; go early or find parking nearby and take a hike to this beautiful hill. Visitors enjoy the raucous chatter of the neighborhood’s most famous (and noisiest) residents, the flock of parrots at the hill.
