History

Ca' d'Zan was built as the winter home of John and Mable Ringling, the circus impresario and art collector whose Sarasota estate became one of the city’s defining cultural landmarks. Designed in a Venetian Gothic style inspired by the Ringlings’ travels, the mansion reflects their fascination with European art and their desire to create a showpiece on the bay. Today it is preserved as part of The Ringling museum complex and remains one of the best-known historic houses in Florida.
