Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

Located along Washington, D.C.'s Tidal Basin, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial spans 7.5 acres and traces FDR's presidency through four outdoor galleries. The site features bronze sculptures, stone-carved presidential quotes, and cascading water elements that symbolize key moments of the Great Depression and World War II. Visitors can also view notable sculptures honoring First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and FDR's faithful dog, Fala.

History

The memorial was dedicated in 1997 and was designed by architect Lawrence Halprin. It is unique for its portrayal of FDR seated in a wheelchair, a powerful representation of his strength and resilience despite his disability.
