Opened in 1929, the Music Box Theatre is Chicago's atmospheric home for independent, foreign, and cult cinema. Featuring its original Spanish revival interior with a twinkling star ceiling, the historic theater hosts film festivals, midnight screenings, and live organ pre-shows. Visitors can enjoy real butter popcorn, craft drinks, and a unique cinematic atmosphere in Lakeview.

Quick tip: Arrive early for weekend screenings to hear live music played on the theater's historic organ and secure good seats in the main auditorium.

Expert notes

  • The Music box has featured theatre organ music regularly. Check out the current showings and go back in time with one of their live showings. The organ is played every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There are also specials such as Holiday sing-alongs and frequent film festivals. Street parking is readily available depending on the day. Enjoy an outdoor movie on our Garden Patio during summertime; arrive 25 minutes before the show.
