Located on the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge in Chula Vista, the Living Coast Discovery Center offers intimate encounters with native Southern California wildlife. Visitors can observe sea turtles, touch stingrays, and explore interactive exhibits featuring local reptiles and birds of prey. Surrounding hiking trails also offer beautiful scenic views across the marshlands and San Diego Bay.

History

Originally opened in 1987 as the Chula Vista Nature Center, the Living Coast Discovery Center has been dedicated to educating the public about the importance of conservation and the environmental challenges facing San Diego's coastal region. Through hands-on learning and community outreach, the center has remained a pivotal resource for environmental education in Southern California.

Quick tip: Park at the designated parking lot off E Street and take the free shuttle to the center, as private vehicles cannot drive directly onto the refuge.
