Crystal Springs Picnic Area is part of the historic Griffith Park, which was originally a part of the Spanish land grant, Rancho Los Felis, and was bequeathed to the city by Colonel Griffith J. Griffith in 1896 as a recreational haven for the residents of Los Angeles.
