Partington Cove

Partington Cove is a small, scenic coastal cove along Highway 1 in Big Sur, known for its rugged cliffs, clear views of the Pacific, and a short walk that leads through a tunnel cut into the rock. It’s a good stop for travelers who want a quieter Big Sur experience with dramatic shoreline scenery rather than a long hike. History

Partington Cove is closely associated with the Partington family, who were early settlers in the Big Sur area and used the cove as a landing spot for supplies. A tunnel through the bluff was built to help move goods between the road and the cove, reflecting the practical challenges of accessing this remote stretch of coast before modern highway travel.
