Located in Kit Carson Park in Escondido, Queen Califia's Magical Circle is an enchanting outdoor sculpture garden created by French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle. The vibrant walled installation features large-scale mosaic sculptures, mythical creatures, mirrored tiles, and a towering central Queen Califia figure celebrating California's heritage. Visitors can walk through snake-adorned maze walls to experience the whimsical open-air artwork up close.
History
Queen Califia's Magical Circle is the only American sculpture garden and the last major international project created by Niki de Saint Phalle. It was inspired by California's mythic, historic, and cultural roots. The garden was opened to the public in 2003, serving as a testament to Saint Phalle's imaginative spirit and her gift of transformative art.
