Geisel Library

Located on the UC San Diego campus, Geisel Library is world-renowned for its striking brutalist architecture that resembles a spaceship. Named in honor of Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and Audrey Geisel, the building houses extensive university research collections alongside public art installations. Visitors can explore the main public levels, admire the geometric glass exterior, and enjoy views stretching across La Jolla.

History

Opened in 1970 and designed by architect William Pereira, Geisel Library's unique structure was intended to stand the test of time. Initially unnamed, it was later dedicated in 1995 to honor the contributions of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, and his wife Audrey for their extensive philanthropic efforts and donation of Dr. Seuss's personal collection.
