• Mount Charleston Wilderness Area provides an incredible opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the region. The Mount Charleston Wilderness Area is part of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area and encompasses 57,000 acres of public land. There are over 60 miles of maintained hiking trails within the wilderness area. The highest peak in the Spring Mountains, Mount Charleston, is located within the wilderness area and stands at over 11,900 ft. The wilderness area is home to a variety of wildlife including deer, elk, mountain lions, and bighorn sheep. Always pack plenty of water and snacks for your hike. Check the weather forecast before your trip and be prepared for changing conditions. Make sure to have a map of the area and a compass or GPS device with you. Take a scenic drive along the Mount Charleston Scenic Byway to see the stunning views of the wilderness area, and the Bristlecone Pine trees, which are the oldest living organisms on the planet.
