Lombardi was the first pizzeria in the United States when it opened in 1905. Gennaro Lombardi, the owner of this place, baked the pizzas using his baker's trade from Napels. Lombardi is credited with developing New York Style pizza and making Lombardi's the first pizzeria in the United States. It is located in the Little Italy section of Manhattan offering its beautiful, smoky-crusted coal oven-baked pizza, topped with purist tomato sauce, fresh whole milk mozzarella, and basil, keeping locals and visitors alike coming back. Many other well-known pizza makers in New York learned their craft from Gennaro Lombardi and started some of the city's most famous pizzerias, including Totonno's, Patsy's, and John's.
