Mission Trails Regional Park

Spanning over 8,000 acres, Mission Trails Regional Park is one of the largest urban parks in the United States, offering visitors more than 60 miles of trails. Highlights include summiting Cowles Mountain for panoramic views, visiting the historic Old Mission Dam, and exploring diverse natural habitats. Visitors can also stop by the interactive Visitor and Interpretive Center or enjoy mountain biking and rock climbing.

History

The park is named after Father Junipero Serra, a Spanish Franciscan friar who founded the first missions in California. Its land has a rich history that dates back thousands of years, originally inhabited by the Kumeyaay people, and later becoming part of the Mission San Diego de Alcalá lands.
