Old Town San Diego State Historic Park

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park preserves and showcases San Diego's early Mexican and American historic periods from 1821 to 1872. Live blacksmith demonstrations, costumed interpreters, and vibrant cultural events bring this historic district to life year-round.

History

Established in 1968, Old Town San Diego State Historic Park preserves and recreates the city's historic heart, where California began. The area was the site of the first permanent Spanish settlement in California, and the park includes many of the original and reconstructed sites from San Diego's early days, including the Whaley House, one of the oldest buildings in San Diego and rumored to be haunted.
